They are considered wise, and I am sure that when you are trying to make a decision on whom to vote you certainly take age into serious consideration. I believe that the reason is because we value wisdom more than intelligence. From the bushmen in Africa to our developed western societies, most of our leaders are elders. They are considered wise and we feel that we can trust them to make balanced decisions about us and our future.
Certainly these people are intelligent, but they have something more, wisdom. Because we need something more than a witty or sharp response to our problems, we need the deeper understanding that age and life experiences bring, we need wisdom, the combination of mental resourcefulness and moral principles. Main body: There is no denying that there are young people who possess the maturity to provide good advice but they are very few, since they lack the discipline acquired by age and having lived life and the experience of hindsight.
Young people, although brilliant, are arrogant and conceited, most times, as they sense their superiority to others and have this urge to demonstrate it so that other people can notice too. Thus, they are loud, volatile, competitive; the world has to know that they are brilliant irrespective of who they hurt or maybe even treat unjustly.
On the other hand, older people have been through this competitive phase. They are settled, they have tried themselves and others and have finalised their priorities and principles in their lives. They have reached contentment and this makes them view life as a whole, thus being able to judge impartially and rationally, taking everything into consideration being respectful towards all concerned parties and eventually giving prudent guidance whenever asked. Conclusion: All in all, it all comes down to our attitude towards life, we are all intelligent one way or another.
However how we decide to demonstrate this intelligence is what differentiates a wise individual from a brilliant one. However, the wisdom of the few is what has kept us from self-destruction. Throughout history there are numerous examples of gifted individuals who have invented something that was revolutionary. Some of these inventions were primarily beneficial to society, unfortunately some others were catastrophic.
